n-Hexane is used as a non-polar, inert solvent in certain epichlorohydrin production processes, particularly in synthesis and purification stages.
n-Hexane's non-polar nature ensures superior solubility for key ECH reactants (e.g., allyl chloride, hypochlorous acid) and intermediates. It enables uniform mixing in chlorohydrination/epoxidation steps, preventing localized reactions that reduce yield or contaminate the final product. Unlike polar solvents, it does not interfere with the catalytic activity of acids or oxidizing agents used in ECH synthesis.
